A little glimpse of the last four months!

Four months ago yesterday I drove from Minnesota to PA, planning to stay with my sister and her family, still figuring out jobs.

It’s weird thinking about how I have been here for four months already!

The first month of being out here was figuring out jobs and getting situated at Brooke and Mason’s house.

I was able to start working at an elementary school as an instructional aide working with 1st – 5th grade kids. Helping looks like taking kids for small groups or seeing if kids need help in the classroom or getting supplies for the teachers for the different activities or homework. Everyday is similar yet different with how the kids act and who needs the most help. I have loved getting to know the kids and learning how to help each one differently in how they need support. Some of the kids are going through a lot at home and it’s hard when I can see it impacting their learning, whenever you get the thought would you be able to lift up a prayer for them, our father knows what each of them need

I have also started working at a coffee shop in the area on Saturdays which has been fun. It’s been nice to have that outlet and meeting different people in the area. The coffee shop is downtown so there is a range of families, a lot of college students and many people from the courthouse next door. One exciting thing is a coworker of mine is expecting a baby girl in just a few weeks so if you could be praying for his wife’s delivery, the baby and their transition and new journey as parents that would be great! Also because I only work one day a week it’s been hard to really stay super connected with my coworkers that I don’t work with as much, prayers for meaningful conversations would be appreciated too.

When I first moved out here the hardest thing was finding community, the church I have been going to is great but it’s pretty big so without lifegroups it really made it difficult to meet new people. The past month I have been involved in a lifegroup and it has been great to have people to reach out to and get together with, especially being able to hear one another’s testimonies and what the Lord is teaching them. I will be sharing my testimony next week, so I would really appreciate prayer for peace and clarity on what to share.

Some exciting news which most of you have already heard as well is my sister is expecting again! 🙂 That being the case right now I’m in the process of looking at moving to an apartment in the area and trying to find one in my price range has been a challenge but also been fun exploring what’s in the area and knowing why I am finding a place of my own. I’m not sure how long I’ll be here for and still feel a pull to go oversees again one day but this season is to be here to pour into my family and the community I am in right now and I’m thankful for the time I can be here to pour into them and have those moments.

Prayer Requests:

  • The students at my school, that I can be a person they can talk to but also that the ones that need more outside help will be able to get it.
  • To be able to develop deeper relationships with my coworkers at Denim Coffee and with the regulars that come in
  • My sister and her pregnancy! (Both praise and prayer for a healthy pregnancy and for the baby’s growth)
  • Finding a roommate or another form of income to be able to afford an apartment in the area
  • To be able to serve those around me the fullest in this season I am in

I hope to post more about what I have been walking through these past few months but know it’s been a while since I have posted much about what I’ve been doing so thank you for reading and wanting to know what I am doing. I would love to hear any praises of what the Lord is doing in your life and/or prayer requests I can be lifting up, please leave a comment or private message if you would prefer.

God bless and may you have the best thanksgiving week full of family, friends and the presence of our Lord, Father and Friend.

With much love, Bethaney
